Jordan
In December 2006 I went for a conference to Jordan. We stayed at the Kempinsky Hotel in Ishtar at the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is the lowest spot on earth and lies approximately 400 meters below sea level.
On Sunday an excursion to Petra was organized. Petra has been built into the Rock by the Nabateans.
At the end of the conference another half-day trip brought us to Mount Nebo where Moses is presumed to have died and his burial place. Nine kilometers further away lies Madaba which is famous for its mosaics. In its Greek-Orthodox church the earliest surviving map of the Holy Land can be found in the form of mosaics.
